Monthly Archives: January 2006

Read the other Jan 30 entry below, then come back here so I can show you what I found.

This text comes from a book I’ve started reading, Becoming Orthodox: A Jounrey to the Ancient Christian Faith. It’s the story of the journey of several Campus Crusade for Christ staff as they searched for “The New Testament Church.” Having moved away from crusades and moved towards planting home churches, these men got [...]

Why I can’t become Orthodox (today)

It’s really worrying me that we are all Christians, we all believe the main stuff – Jesus is the son of God – but that’s about it really. But what about all the other stuff that we all disagree with. Once saved always saved, or not, baby baptism doesn’t count, baby baptism does [...]

The big ad

You’ve got to check out this ad. It’s fantastic. It’s a big ad.

Fire photo

Article from The Age about the fires round the states. Free registration may be required, but absolutely no spam has ever come my way.
Also another article by a firefighter on what it was like fighting fires in 1997. It’s a long time ago when I think about it, but these things [...]

Total Fire Ban

After a few days of heat, we’ve stopped complaining and settled into a different lifestyle. Quick bit of yard work in the early morning, raking leaves, watering gardens, moving slowly. Hibernating all day, then out as the sun goes down to swim, clean out gutters and rake more leaves. Although I did [...]

Swimming

I went for a swim last night. It was _fantastic_. There is something free and wonderful about floating through the water, and something a little bit frightening to know that there’s nothing but water all around you.
You can tell how hot it is by how far out the supervising parents [...]

Today is so hot

41.5 C. It was cooler in the fish and chip shop than it was on the street.
Hotter tomorrow. And it’s not even February yet, the hottest month of the year.
Funny how I just have to tell everyone about the weather.

I’m into salad at last

I’m over pizza.
I’ve finally discovered the key to a good salad.
A recipe.
Salad when I was a kid meant iceberg lettuce, quartered tomato and sliced cucumber. That’s it.
I’ve spent 10 years avoiding salad, cos I thought salad meant lettuce.
These are just so yum, and I’m so proud of myself for finally making a [...]

Comfort eating

Cold Christmas pudding with lots of almonds in it. Nice.
I’ll eat healthy tomorrow.

Van park people

Caravan parks in summer are amazing places. It seems that every year the same people head down to the same van park. Entire extended families go together, from little babies to grandparents. Everyone seems to know people that they see there each year. Kids hang out playing soccer. Teenagers get [...]
