You are not your stuff

I’ve been thinking of blogging some stories from our time with the family for the funeral for a while now. But the stories are just so long and complicated and yet everyday. But the moral of the story is,
You are not your stuff.
We arrived at the house three days after the death. You [...]

Nice day for a walk

I’ve been for a walk in the country today. In a town where people have closed in their verandahs with louvre windows, the old houses have a massive palm trees out the front, the lawns are watered and the Returned Servicemans League club is the centre of the town. All the churches are [...]

peacefully resting in the arms of Jesus

I’ve just read the ‘order of service of the celebration of life’.
At the top of the inside page it says,
…peacefully resting in the arms of Jesus.
I don’t think so.
I think there’ll be some welcoming and partying, and some dancing in a new working body, and some meeting old friends, and some exploring and marvelling, and [...]

My electric toothbrush has carked it.

It’s been having some issues lately, until finally it stopped all together. It even emitted that flatline sound heart rate monitors on TV make. I stuck it on the charger and the next day it was raring to go, totally revitalised and better than it had ever been before. I was ready [...]

Real worship can happen anywhere

For the first time in ages I felt like I had worshipped God, and it happened in the middle of a funeral. I didn’t mime some Hillsong version of personal happiness. I didn’t try really hard to think of good things to say about God in order to learn to worship through it’s [...]

I ate at McDonalds again

again. And it was nice. I had a lean beef burger. It had real salad on it. And it didn’t have tons of sugar sweet sauce on it. The trick is to avoid the fries. And don’t have jasmine *flavoured* green tea. It smelt like Passiona and tasted … [...]

Away for a while

I’m off to a funeral. All so very practical in the beginning. What songs to sing, what to wear, what to do with the house? It’ll be good to get together with everyone in one place, probably for the last time. The head of the family has died, splintering the family. [...]

I ate McDonalds

Today I ate at McDonalds. But it wasn’t my fault. I had to make a hurried trip to the airport. I was out for three hours. What other drive thru is there on the highway? Sometimes I think that I would really like some McDonalds. Then I have some. [...]

The art of conversation

Well Hello.
What a day. I did no routine tick off the list cleaning until 7.30pm and had tea at 8. Couldn’t go to a local pastors’ network prayer meeting. I felt quite important to be invited. Which is probably a good reason not to go. The last thing I need [...]

In the analysis

There really are a lot of good people out there saying a lot of good things. How am I to know what is important? I think it’s best if I just say nothing. Otherwise I will say like Job, surely I spoke of things I did not understand.
